I make journals by cutting ...I love that idea, too! I make journals by cutting several pieces of paper (filler) like you did with 2 slits along the fold. Then take one sheet of paper and fold to match the other pieces. Now unfold it and fold the other way. Cut along that fold like you are cutting the middle of the fold on the filler paper. Then fold it the original way. Roll up the filler paper and stick it in the gap of the one piece. Let it unroll, match up the folds, and you have a book. It is really a lot simpler than it sounds. Email me and I will do it with pictures if you are interested. I have my 2nd graders do it last year and they loved it.
