I'm Making Videos Now! Maybe Not What You Might Think...

I have taken a HUGE step in my social media adventures. Something I never thought I would do. I've jumped into video creation with both feet! I have always been someone who avoids the camera like my life depends on it. I have never liked seeing myself in pictures and I definitely do not enjoy hearing the sound of my own voice or watching myself on video. BUT I'm doing it anyway. I'm finding that the more videos I create, the more self-accepting I'm becoming. Now, I really don't know what I'm doing. I'm filming on my phone. The lighting usually isn't great. Wow, that's really making you want to watch, huh?

As I get older,  I'm changing in a lot of ways. Up until a few years ago, I wouldn't be caught dead in a dress. A sleeveless top, nope. A bathing suit in public - NEVER! I'm planning a video that will go into the moment I had a little epiphany about these things, but long story short, my go-to outfits now are sleeveless dresses and my favorite thing to do is float around the lazy river at a resort hotel in my bathing suit. I'm determined not to be held back by what others may think of me. And that, my friends, feels pretty good.

So, if you'd like to get to know me a little better, come watch some of my videos. I've been posting a (mostly) daily video on Instagram covering a wide range of things from deep thoughts, funny moments from the classroom and my real life, and my thoughts on education. I've even cried a time or two. I can't help it. I'm the kind of person who feels every emotion really deeply. I've been teaching for almost 30 years. I've got a lot to say! My videos are not about my TpT products or how to get a Pinterest perfect classroom. They're just videos of me being me, talking about things that are important to me and other teachers I know. It's been a great creative outlet for me. I've also been experimenting with reels and TikTok videos, but those are definitely a work in progress. Some of my reels are pro-tips for teaching but the full length videos are mostly little talks about things that are rolling around my brain. I'm not quite sure that Instagram is the place for videos that are ten-ish minutes long, so I started a YouTube channel as well. Might as well go all in! My plan is to eventually post a little snippet of the daily video on Instagram and then post the whole thing on YouTube. But that has to wait until I get a handle on editing. I'm watching lots and lots of tutorials!

So if you'd like to join me on Instagram, you can find me here at SunnyinSecond. My YouTube channel name is Denise Speaks, and you can find me here. Man, growing a YouTube audience is TOUGH. I have so much respect for "smaller" channels now. I used to see channels and think, "wow, they only have 10,000 subscribers?" and now I'm like, "WOW! They have 10,000 subscribers!!". I currently have 15 subscribers and feel like that's kind of amazing. lol. Who knows what the future holds, but my fortune cookie last night said that my career is about to take off, so there's that!
