I was stopped dead in my tracks the other night walking through Walmart when I saw the most glorious Crayola display. Single boxes of crayons in one shade! I had heard these boxes existed, even saw pictures that a friend posted, but I couldn't seem to find them anywhere - until now. I really don't know why this excites me so much, but it really, really does. Weird...
Only 8 shades of grey though? Where are the other 42?
Think I should keep Red Hot and Shady Gray separated? hee hee...
I really wanted these crayons as starter supplies for my extra crayon drawers. I've always had a container of extra crayons for those times when a kid can't find a red or black, but they were always just all jumbled together in one big mish-mash. Besides the fact that kids could master the art of dragging out crayon fishing for 10 minutes, the colors all kind of rubbed off on each other - so the darker colors would mark up the lighter colors...just a mess. So last year when I saw the way my crazy/genius friend Squirrels organized her crayons, I knew I had to follow suit. Only took a year. That's actually not so bad - I've had un-acted-upon ideas rolling around in my head for way longer than that!
I hemmed and hawed about how to design the labels, but in the end I like how they turned out.
Very kid friendly and theme-neutral.
If you like, feel free to download them HERE from Google Docs.
To attach them to the drawers (which are pretty small and have a little ridge in them) I used my trusty Xyron. I've blabbed about this thing before but I LOVEEEE it.
No Xyron, no problem - double stick tape will work too!
Tracy from Creekside Teacher Tales also has a set of these labels that you might like. I was going to use hers before I made mine, but I needed different color combos and I had 9 drawers instead of 8 (hence the "special colors" drawer) and I didn't want to ask her to customize a freebie just for me.
You can snag her cute set here.
And before I go, big congrats to Amy T. who won my pencil sharpener giveaway. Don't be too disappointed if you're not Amy, because I have another cool giveaway coming up right around the corner!
I absolutely love your crayon organization and labels! I have never seen that before and I think it's a great idea. I enjoy reading blog and have been following it for a long time. Enjoy the weekend!!!

Hey, I was just in Wal-Mart yesterday and there was definitely not a display like that, lol! I think I would have stopped in my tracks, too! I did get regular 24-count boxes of Crayola crayons for 50 cents, though... that made me smile. Cool way to organize crayons, I think I will have to try that - though it may take me a year, too! :)
