Bulletin Board Linky Party

Look at me! A few months ago I had no idea what a "linky party" was and now I'm hosting one!

I spend lots of time in the summer scouring the web for back to school bulletin boards. I usually find a general idea and then tweak it a bit. From what I've seen with my blog hopping lately, I know that there must be a treasure trove of back to school boards out there just waiting for the spotlight!

So, join me in sharing some cool ways to welcome the kids back and link up! You know what? Feel free to link up any boards, you never know what might inspire someone :)  If you don't have a blog, feel free to leave a comment about your board.

I'll go first! This was last year's welcome back board. I had saved up enough cups to have one for each kid but the weird shape of the cup made attaching them a nightmare (Who woulda thunk it?) So instead, I added a cupcake wrapper with the kids' names inside at the last minute).

Our Open House (or Parent Night) is about a month after school starts, so just before the parents came I switched it to this one. It's a glyph activity that we do in class during the first few days. I love how it looks on the black background. (I painted my bb's...best.thing.ever!)

Finally is this soup-er board (ba dum dum!). I've shared this one before. As you see it now, we used it for an end of the year spelling review. Originally though, I used it as a welcome board with the title "Mrs. B's Soup-er Second Graders!" Takes a little patience to glue the teeny little alphabet letters down, but I'm thinking that letter stickers might work just as well...

{Please don't let me be the only one at my party. That would be very sad. And lonely.}

  1. I do the kids handprints during our Meet the Teacher event. The kids also write there name on the paper (so I get a quick snapshot of what's walking through my door.) Then my board for the first day says "Our Hands Can" as well as words like create, read, add etc. My families really love seeing projects posted right on the first day!

  2. I really like doing the puzzle project where you take a large peice of white butcher paper and cut into jig-saw pieces - one for each student. Write each students name on their piece (or let them if they are older) and each student can decorate his or her own piece. When the puzzle is put together, it shows how every person is an important part of the whole class.

  4. Hey Barbara,
    If you go to to page that has the bulletin board pix on it, just copy that URL and then come back here and click on the "add your link" button and it will walk you through a couple of simple steps! I think that should do it :)

  6. I love that idea Rachel. It reminds me of another puzzle activity I had for the beginning of the year...off to dig through my files now!

  11. I love the idea of painting your bulletin board! I use fabric on my bulletin board and it also works really well. :)

  12. Hi Denise! Loved your "Soup-er Spellers" bulletin board idea and featured it at our blog, Bulletin Board Ideas! We were sure to give photo/idea credit, as well as a link back to your blog, but we'd love for you to take a look at the post and, if there are any problems, we'll fix them/take it down right away!

    Thanks so much!
